2014 has come to an end and the new year is upon us. As many of us look ahead to a fresh start in 2015, we should consider our work lives, personal lives, and our overall productivity. What can we do to save time, be more efficient, and crush 2015?

Here are some tips to help you become a more productive person in 2015:

1. WAKE UP 30 MINUTES EARLIER TO GENERATE NEW IDEAS

Wake up 30 minutes earlier instead of sleeping in and rushing to work. Rushing can hinder our mental from the idea-generating process.

2. COMPLETE YOUR IMPORTANT TASKS IN THE MORNING

Your brain is sharpest during the two to four hours after waking up, so each morning is a crucial window to get things done.

3. RE-STRUCTURE THE WEEKLY MEETINGS

Too many people get together without really knowing why, simply because it was on their weekly schedules. Most valuable meetings have one of three purposes: inform, discuss or decide.

4. STOP USING THESE WORDS IN YOUR EMAILS

Stop using these words in your email correspondence in 2015: “unfortunately”, “but”, “sincerely”, “regrettably”, “best”, “amazing”, “statistically”, “formally”, “interestingly”, and “remotely”. These words might dissuade the reader from feeling good and responding positively.

5. WRITE YOUR EMAILS BACKWARDS TO GET BETTER RESPONSES

Put the action, request, or most important information in the first line of the email. In essence, you want to write your email backwards.

6. LEAVE WORK GO FOR A WALK.

Each day take a break, perhaps go outside, and walk. This will allow you to subconsciously process your thoughts to help you perform better.

7. PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE

Plan your day backwards beginning at 5:30pm. The time slots create mini deadlines for each task, so you’ll be more inclined to finish on time, and leave the office at a reasonable time.

8. TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION ON TASKS THAT TAKE 2 MINUTES OR LESS

If you have a task or request that takes two minutes or less to complete, there is no point to push it off for later, which only makes your task list longer.

9. ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS

We all have peaks and dips in performance, energy, and excitement, but asking yourself questions is also important for personal success. You can create an ongoing journal that documents your personal growth.

10. DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE FOR 10 MINUTES BEFORE YOU GO TO BED

Set aside some time to do the things that you love. It is important to do some creative things to keep your mind fresh and calm. Think outside of the box and do something different before reaching for your smartphone.
